damn googtube.... their vid encoding has screwed up the sync. The vid is now out of sync with the audio and it's NOT that way in VLC player or in Sony Vegas Pro 12. So, it sucks ass because it makes it look as if I don't know how to lip sync or play in time. The solo is noticeably off. I won't upload another one but I'm going to put the vid on this site in case you want to d/l if you notice it's out of sync.

For the inquisitive among you...
I knew of Ritchie way back in the late 80s but he was one of those shredder types like Greg Howe, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore, and so during my YT surfing I happened across some vid of him playing with Billy Sheehan (bassist) and thought eh, it's okay. Then I just happened upon another vid of him called "Paying Dues" and totally had no idea he sang. His voice was quite high and had that "soul" thing going on and he played all the instruments on that one and it is quite impressive. His guitar skill is right up there with Greg Howe and Paul Gilbert but as he's aged, he's kind of settled into a sort of rock/blues/Hendrix/semi-shred vibe.
SO.... I saw this other vid (the enemy) and decided to try and do a version of it.
I immediately realized I couldn't sing it in that key due to how high he sings it. So, I says to myself, self, there's always pitch shifting! So, I pitched it 2 frets low and tried again. I couldn't do it and gave up and admitted defeat. Maybe 2 days later I says to myself, self, there's always MORE pitch shifting! And I said hmmmm and set about shifting it down FIVE freaking frets. Yes, I detuned the track by 5 semitones and sang it. THEN I pitched my voice BACK up 4 semitones and spent a load of time tweaking the voice to get it in an acceptable sonic range. As you may know, when you pitch shift the pitch but keep the time the same, you get weird artifacts, but pitching and changing time gives a mickey mouse effect.
So I had to use the normal shifter (leave time alone) and tweak the living hell out of it and use two multiband compressors to achieve a more normal sound. Get the bite up but compress (limit actually) it so that it doesn't EXCEED a certain amount on the consonants, etc.
I played all the instruments, also. Drums and bass were done via MIDI (not a real kit or bass). Addictive Drums and Trilogy bass plugins. Guitars are the brown one you see and that solo is probably one of the smoothest ones I've done in a while AND it's my own (not what Ritchie does in the actual song).
