THIS IS A KARAOKE! IT'S NOT THE ACTUAL ALBUM MUSIC OR VOCALS!
Got the notion to do this song. I always liked this one and that other popular one that I totally cannot recall right now. See below for... more INFO.
I d/l a backing track, pitched it down by 7 semitones. Sang the song. Turned the pitch shift OFF of the backing track and turned it on for my vocal track. Now, I'm singing it in the right key. so to speak. I doubled the lead vocal track and created a kind of doubling effect by adding some chorus to that track, shifting the whole thing in time EARLIER by oh, 15 ms? and also not using auto-tune on that track but use some on the first track which of course will create a tiny bit of pitch difference between the two which is exactly what you want when you need a doubling effect. That almost horse scream in there is me falsettoing what would be the octave above B at the 7th fret last string of the guitar so it ends up being a B at the 19th fret but the pitch shifter can't handle that high of a note so it starts to crap out and that is what gave it that weird distorted flavor. I kind of liked it so I left it. I could have copied that track to a NEW track and for that note only, I could have changed the pitch shift settings to favor that high of a note but.... I didn't. So, lots of mixing and tweaking and pitch shifting and auto-tune and volume tweaks and reverb tweaks (bunch of automation with envelopes going on) compression, multiband compression, de-essing, gawd damn, how many effects does it take to get a decent sound???? Oh, I forgot digital delay. I guess that's about it.
