Man, I love the absolute energy of this song and wanted to cover it for a very long time. The intense riff chugging and monster drum beats make this song so powerful. Warm up that picking hand gentleman, it's arm day!
I actually forgot what this track was called and had to do a proper search to get to the name. I even forgot that Gojira wrote it and I was very confused as to why I couldn't find it. I even tried humming and whistling the main melody to an app to get to the name, but alas, nothing. I finally found it but searching for bands similar to The Faceless and Decapitated. So, to those Die Hard fans out there, I do apologize, but it makes for a very fun story to tell.
Because Gojira has a very simple, yet effective setup, to their tone, I was able to replicate it fairly easy using a vst called TSE50X and some Eq. The bass was also run through a vst called BOD 2.0 to get that tight distorted sound you hear on the studio recording. During the mastering process I used an EQ matcher to get the sound as close a possible and I think it came out pretty close.
For the clean guitar part, I played the melody normal and then reversed the video and audio so that it would sound like what you hear on the studio recording. I had a lot of fun with this one indeed and the tabs out there seem to show just one guitar part during the distorted parts, but there are definitely 2 guitars doing different things during the song. Even the clean guitar part has another one doing something different. I tried putting that in the song, but playing it in reverse just didn't sound right to my ears, so I left it out.
Hope You Guys Enjoy This
Cheers
