Alright everybody....this is the big one.
First things first, the biggest of shoutouts to my partner in crime, Jonathan Young, for pretty much everything. And my man, Travis Carte, for the incredible job he always does with these collabs.
So, this is easily the most requested song I've had in at least two years. Even before Jon and I ever did our first Prince of Egypt cover this was the one on everyone's mind. It was a daunting task and one request that we did not take lightly.
A little insight into the development of this cover; After "Playing with the Big Boys" released on Jon's channel, I knew that I wanted to eventually do "Deliver Us". When I brought the idea to Jon, initially, he was skeptical about bringing it to his channel due to the obvious religious context of the song. And I totally respect that. Fortunately, he was willing to do it with me on my channel. Not only that, but he made this absolutely insane instrumental for it as well. I know very well that some of you may be upset that it's not the FULL version of the song. Please understand, though, most of the song is used in a visual context. It's originally a seven and a half minute song with most of it is accompanied by sweeping, animated visuals. Our version does not have any of those, so we opted to create a shorter, but still true-to-the-original version. We removed the last singing part to keep the cover concise and replayable. Maybe if we had planned to have a third vocalist, the last section could have worked, but we had already done this series of covers as duets so we wanted to keep it that way.
It was also intentional for this video to be the most visually sparse out of all of them. Most people listen to this song in the context of the story of the Prince of Egypt (or, the Old Testament story). By removing all of that, my goal was to place this song in a more open and interpretable environment. Tight face shots (hello acne), side by side singing, black color background and clothing, I think, help draw attention to the actual words of the song and remove them, somewhat, from their storytelling properties.
Whew.....alrighty, if you're still reading this and haven't started the video, PLEASE GO AND WATCH!! IF you reading while watching, please go back to the video! Thank y'all again for everything, and I hope to see you next week ♥
Peace, love, and metal m/
