Tuning Is Std E
THE BIG ONE!!! Labeled as Metallica's hardest song, I took a big leap and tried my hand at this one. A very fast paced song with an even faster guitar solo from one of Kirk's more creative sides.
FIRST THE EVIDENCE:
I was never aware of the fact that there was even a debate over the main riff being played 222222 or 232323 until about 3 years ago. When I listened to it back then I could not believe that there would even be a discussion about this. I believe my ears are good enough to spot the difference and I stuck with the 22222 way of playing. Later on some old school video footage surfaced with Kirk playing the main riff in the 222222 fashion. This cleared it all up for me and I could begin picking the song apart. DON'T ALWAYS BELIEVE THE OFFICIAL TAB BOOKS!!!! They are NEVER looked at by the original composers.
Here are two links that shows the correct way of playing this monstrous riff!!!

I found that the fast bits in the solo was hard to get up to tempo, but really had no struggle in the Rhythm parts of the song. It is most definitely a hard song to play as the transition from one riff to another is quick, but a couple of practice runs was all it really took for me to pull everything off. I've never played this song before and this was my first time playing any of its riffs, but I managed to learn and record the entire song in less than 5 days. So I'm kind of proud of this achievement.
Anyways, as always I use cab IRs and Amp Sims to emulate the sound of the original album.
Hope You Guys Enjoy This One
Cheers
