Down in Yon Forest (All Bells in Paradise) is an English Carol that dates back to the Renaissance era and the original writer has been lost to history. The lyrics are dark, mysterious, and somehow beautiful all at the same time! The meaning of the brooding lyrics and song have been long debated, but perhaps the mystery is part of the intrigue of this haunting carol. There are words about a knight being bled daily, a hound drinking a river made of half water and half blood, and of course, there is a mysterious hall in a forest. We found the perfect enchanted “hall” ruins in the middle of a forest for our music video! We included all of the lyrics that we could find, and even made some adjustments so that they lyrics fit perfectly with our 2-harp and vocal arrangement. In homage to the Renaissance era in which this piece was written, in our interpretation you will hear lots of unique harmonies and chant-like backing vocals – some very low and some very high in range.
